Contacts & Address Books

Contacts are the heart of SyncContact. Every contact carries the usual details — names, phone numbers, emails, postal addresses, organizations, birthdays, notes — plus everything SyncContact layers on top: places, file attachments, and a full history of who changed what.

Types of address books

The address book selector in the top bar lists everything you have access to:

  • Personal — created automatically with your account. Private to you; this is also where your own contact card lives.
  • Workspace — shared address books owned by a workspace. Everyone in the workspace sees the same contacts; the default workspace book contains the workspace members themselves.
  • Trello — if you've connected Trello, each Trello workspace appears as an address book with its members kept in sync automatically. See Trello Integration.
  • Google — if you've connected a Google account, your Google Contacts appear as their own address books, including Google's "Other contacts". See Google Contacts.

A contact can belong to more than one address book — for example, a customer can live in a shared workspace book and in your personal book at the same time.

Working with contacts

  • Browse and search — the contact list supports fast search and filters, so you can narrow by name, detail, or group.
  • Groups — organize contacts into groups from the sidebar and filter the list by group.
  • Create and edit — open any contact to see the full details pane; edit fields in place, or create new contacts from scratch.
  • Import and export — import contacts from vCard (.vcf) files and export them back out. This makes moving from another contacts app painless.
  • Attachments — keep files with a contact (contracts, photos, documents) right on their card.
  • History — every change to a contact is recorded, so you can see what a teammate edited and when.

Views on an address book

Each address book can be viewed in more than one way:

  • List — the classic contact list with the details pane.
  • Map — contacts placed on a world map by their addresses.
  • Timespace — contacts arranged on time-zone timelines, ideal for distributed teams.

Appearance

You can adjust how the contact list looks — density, visible fields, and theme — from the appearance settings in the address book view. Preferences are per-user, so your view is your own.
